Shortage of health manpower due to emigration, aging and death. -
Lack of adequate and good quality drugs and medical supplies -
High morbidity and mortality rates of treatable diseases, such as TB, Malaria, waterborne diseases, and injuries from firearms and mines. -
Lack of preventive services such as immunization of childhood diseases, HIV/AIDS prevention, safe drinking water, and sanitation services. Strategic Interventions 1. Provision of essential prevention services: -

Mental health 2. Rehabilitation of health manpower training institutions (Somali University Medical School, Nursing and Paramedical Training Schools) in the country. 3. Support newly emerged health manpower training institutions (Mogadishu University, Amoud University, Banadir University, Edna, Bossasso Nursing School, and others). 4. Regulate drug importation and distribution. 5. Provide safe drinking water. 6. Establish TB, malaria, schistosomiasis and diarrhoeal disease control programs.
